CA - LAPD Officer Accused of Comp Fraud
A Los Angeles police officer was arrested on suspicion of workers’ compensation fraud, according to a report by Southern California Public Radio.
John Bailey, 43, was arrested Tuesday after a felony warrant was issued for his arrest.
The Los Angeles Daily News reports that the arrest warrant flowed from an investigation by the Los Angeles Police Department’s Workers’ Compensation Fraud Unit into a medical claim Bailey filed in early 2018, but did not provide additional details.
Bailey, a resident of San Bernardino County, was held in lieu of $60,000 bail.

Two appeals from transportation-related companies have raised the possibility of additional classifications for Florida employers.
The Florida Workers' Compensation Appeals Board this week ruled against an aircraft maintenance company, Daytona Aircraft Services, which argued it is classed improperly as an airline company, according to a news report by Florida Politics. Reclassifying the company could save it about $18,000 a year in workers' compensation premiums, the company said.

NY - Accused Doctor Asks Court to Approve New Pain Management Job

A New York doctor who is accused of causing the deaths of six patients by negligently prescribing opioids has asked the federal judge presiding over the case to allow him to continue working at a pain management clinic while awaiting trial, according to a report by NBC News.
Dr. Eugene Gosy was indicted in 2016 on fraud charges. Prosecutors say that many of his patients became addicted to opioids because of his negligence, and six of them died of overdoses. The New York Workers' Compensation Board suspended Gosy's authorization to treat injured workers in response to the charges.
