For the fourth time in six years, the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation is poised to approve a $1 billion rebate to policyholders, except this time the bureau is upping the ante by $500 million.
The BWC announced Tuesday that its Board of Directors will hear a proposal today to issue a $1.5 billion rebate, the largest in 20 years. The board is scheduled to vote on the proposal on May 24.

CA - Salinas Contractor Sentenced to Probation for Premium Fraud Scheme
A roofing contractor in Northern California was sentenced to five years of felony probation after pleading guilty to two counts of workers’ compensation premium fraud.
The Monterey County District Attorney’s Office announced that Juan Luis Lopez Garcia of Salinas was also ordered to pay State Compensation Insurance Fund $18,843 in restitution.
Garcia is a licensed contractor and owner of Gold Shield Roofing. The District Attorney’s Office said Garcia reported having no employees at Gold Shield, but an investigation found that the company had workers at several job site...
