A Riverside judge denied a request by the California Medical Board to suspend the medical license of a doctor who pleaded not guilty to charges that he referred workers’ compensation patients to have services provided by other companies he owned, according to a report by the Press-Enterprise.
The Riverside County District Attorney’s Office charged Dr. Sanjoy Banerjee, 42, with seven felonies, including two counts of fraud and five counts of perjury.

The wife of a ski lift operator who died in December is appealing the decision of Colorado’s largest workers’ compensation carrier to reduce her death benefits because of her husband’s use of marijuana, according to media reports.
Erika Lee’s husband was crushed by a ski escalator in Loveland, according to an Associated Press report. Her husband had marijuana in his system at the time of the fatal accident.

CA - DWC Posts Updated Subpoena Forms

The California Division of Workers’ Compensation posted to its website updated subpoena forms for use in district offices throughout the state.
The Workers’ Compensation Appeals Board has approved the new forms, the division announced on Tuesday.
Electronic copies of the forms that can be filled out on a computer are available from the DWC’s website, here. Hard copies will be available at the division’s district offices.

Volunteer fire and ambulance workers should be eligible for the same workers' compensation benefits as paid employees, reads a bill introduced this week in the Pennsylvania General Assembly.
