Friday, January 5, 2018 | 0

Workers’ comp defense attorney Richard L. Johnson has applied to fill a vacancy on the Ohio Supreme Court created by the resignation of Justice William O’Neill.

Johnson is one of three applicants for the seat, The Blade reported.

Johnson is a member of the Labor and Employment Practice Group at Eastman & Smith in Toledo.

He has represented self-insured and state-funded employers before the Industrial Commission, Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation, Self-Insuring Employers Evaluation Board and in Ohio’s courts, including the state Supreme Court.

Johnson is a graduate of the University of Toledo College of Law and is accredited by the Ohio State Bar Association as a certified specialist in workers' compensation law.

O’Neill is stepping down on Jan. 26 to run for governor. He is the only Democrat on the bench.

Gov. John Kasich will name a replacement.
