Work Comp Payers Could Have Case Against Opioid Marketers, Consultant Says

As states, cities and even a major health insurer add their names to the list of plaintiffs suing pharmaceutical companies over their role in the opioid crisis, workers’ compensation payers could be next, managed care consultant Joe Paduda says. In an interview Wednesday, Paduda said he’s had conversations with “folks in positions of authority within big payers” about suing opioid manufacturers such as Purdue Pharma over their marketing tactics. “I would be very surprised if there’s not major litigation within the next couple of years,” Paduda said. ...
