According to the most recent data from the Texas Division of Workers' Compensation, the cost of air ambulance bills has been steadily climbing year after year.
Between 2009 and the end of 2015, one company went from charging $17,250 for a patient transport to $37,818. Another went from billing $11,492 in 2010 to $26,177 in 2014.
These rising costs are obviously a concern for insurance carriers because the DWC has been ordering them to pay the billed amounts, defense attorney James Loughlin of Stone, Loughlin & Swanson said Friday.
