The California Department of Insurance is fighting industry efforts to exempt some workers’ compensation policy documents from mandatory review, saying doing so could expose employers to unfavorable coverage terms or create solvency issues for carriers.
But the American Insurance Association says the proposed exemptions in a bill it’s sponsoring would apply only to small sliver of sophisticated employers that don’t need regulators to review every policy document.
