The Pennsylvania Counties Workers’ Compensation Trust has awarded Lawrence County a grant to pay for safety improvements at the county courthouse, according to the New Castle News newspaper.

The $7,445 grant will pay for replacing the courthouse’s fire alarm and replace a porch outside the facility that has a loose railing. The grant will also pay for a horn to replace the courthouse’s existing alarm, a bell, which some have complained is not loud enough to alert workers and the public.

The county is a member of the trust, a self-insured workers’ compensation risk pool for 35 counties and 12 county-related entities in Pennsylvania.
