The Arizona Industrial Commission will hold a hearing in June on an additional 0.5% assessment it is proposing to finance its Special Fund, which an appellate court recently said is subject to legislative raids.The fund was created in 1969 and acts as a guaranty fund, an uninsured employer fund and a second injury fund, paying indemnity and medical benefits as well as providing vocational rehabilitation.Insurers pay an assessment equal to 1% of premiums and self-insured employers are assessed 1% of claims costs.
