Delaware Health Agency Moves to New Digs After WC Claims About Mold

Thursday, July 12, 2018 | 0

After two years of complaints about mold and health problems, along with the filing of several workers' compensation claims, Delaware state workers are finally moving to a new office building.

Employees at the Department of Health and Social Services have toiled at an office complex known as the Blue Hen Corporate Center in Dover. And for years they have complained about itchy eyes, blurred vision, sore throats, skin rashes and headaches, according to a local news report.

At least 11 employees filed workers' comp claims.

An air quality test last fall showed high levels of mold in one office, and moderate levels in other areas. The property management company last month agreed to let the agency break its lease without a termination fee, saving taxpayers more than $900,000, the news report said.

In all, 25 employees will move to a new site at the end of July.
