An injured worker literally gave his right arm to an amputee following a chance encounter in a Northern California parking lot.
Robert Ballesteros lost the lower half of his right arm as the result of an injury he sustained while working at a Bay Area shipyard in the '90s, according to a report by the Modesto Bee. In 2001, his employer's workers' compensation carrier bought him a $30,000 bionic arm.
But Ballesteros' arm had atrophied too much to be able to use the prosthetic device, and it sat in a box for the past 14 years.
