The owner of a Seattle construction company fined $51,500 for safety violations that led to the death of a worker was charged with manslaughter in the first felony case over a workplace fatality in Washington state, according to the Department of Labor and Industries.
King County prosecutors charged Phillip Numrich, the owner of Alki Construction, with second-degree manslaughter for the death of Harold Felton.
Felton died in January 2016 when the walls of a trench he was working in collapsed. The county filed criminal charges against Numrich on Friday.
