The Nevada Workers’ Compensation Section said a recent “educational outreach sweep” found 18% of employers were operating without coverage.
WCS said in the summer edition of the Nevada Workers’ Compensation Chronicle that investigators visited more than 179 employers over a three-hour period, asking for proof of work comp coverage.
Those who did not have coverage received “a courtesy warning” and were subjected to a follow-up investigation three weeks later.
WCS said 14% of employers complied with the requirement to carry workers’ compensation coverage immediately after the outreach effort.
Regulators said they did not issue any stop work orders as a result of the sweeps.
