Solis Applauds Approval of Miner Safety Act by House Committee

U.S. Labor Secretary Hilda Solis last week praised committee approval of the Robert C. Byrd Miner Safety and Health Act of 2010.The legislation, triggered by the Upper Big Branch mine explosion that killed 29 miners in Raleigh County, W. Va., on April 5, boosts protections against threats and retaliation for reporting safety concerns.The bill also rewrites the criteria for sanctions against patterns of safety violations.
