A Texas state lawmaker said last week that he intends to introduce legislation next year that will terminate a controversial deal in which Texas Mutual Insurance pays the Travis County District Attorney’s Office to prosecute workers’ compensation fraud cases.
Sen. Kirk Watson, D-Austin, said he will propose that the state beef up staffing at the Texas Department of Insurance so its investigators can review fraud cases in Travis County and then make referrals to the district attorney.
