Doctor Suspended After Patient Dies

The New York Workers' Compensation Board has suspended a physician after he reportedly sent a heart patient home without adequate treatment. The patient was found dead later that day, according to a bulletin from the board.
Dr. Dhimantkumar G. Mankad, of New Hartford, New York, "is prohibited from rendering treatment and care to injured workers while his authorization is temporarily suspended," board Chair Clarissa Rodriquez said.
Reports submitted by Mankad for services prior to March 26, 2018, are valid but will be considered invalid for any services rendered on or after that date.
The state Department of Health had charged that Mankad failed to maintain adequate medical records about the patient, who had a history of cardiac problems and had presented that day with chest pain.
Mankad is suspended from accepting workers' compensation cases until further notice, and he may practice medicine only if monitored by a licensed physician, the board said.
