Thursday, April 6, 2017 | 0

A preliminary hearing was postponed this week for a West Virginia sheriff's deputy accused of cashing paychecks mistakenly received alongside workers' compensation checks, The Herald-Mail newspaper of Hagerstown, Maryland, reported.

Terrance S. Shetley, 50, was receiving workers' compensation payments for a June 2015 injury when he began receiving paychecks from the county as well, according to police. He allegedly cashed 11 paychecks totaling $18,799. He was charged with fraud.

Shetley was scheduled to make an initial courtroom appearance Tuesday, but the appearance was postponed.

Shetley has worked for the Berkeley County Sheriff's Department since 2001.
