The Indiana Second Injury Fund has enough of a fund balance to pay its obligations through the end of December but will require an assessment to beef up the fund next year, the Worker's Compensation Board says.
The fund currently has a balance of $3,383,380 and last year paid out $6,298,675 — about 20% of which went to replace prostheses.
Under Indiana Code 22-3-3-13, assessments on carriers and self-insurers are required if the fund’s assets on or before Nov. 1 are less than 135% of the previous year’s payments.
