The owner of a Florida construction company has been arrested on suspicion of lying on an application for workers’ compensation insurance to avoid paying about $734,000 in premium, the state Department of Financial Services said.
Maria Cristina Romero Zelaya, owner of Miochosis Construction Inc., was arrested on Dec. 7 by DFS investigators and taken to Duval County Jail. She has been charged with knowingly concealing payroll, scheming to defraud and acting as an unlicensed money transmitter.
