Postal Worker Pleads to Federal WC Fraud

A former postal worker in Louisiana has pleaded guilty to defrauding the federal workers' compensation system of more than $16,800, the U.S. Attorney's office announced Thursday. Lexy Lopez-Bateman, 40, of Slidell, Louisiana, injured her ankle in 2015 and received benefits, including reimbursement for travel to medical appointments. An investigation showed she had submitted more than 300 fraudulent claims by exaggerating her mileage and claiming trips that were not for medical purposes, the plea agreement shows. She faces at least five years in prison and up to $250,000 in fines...
