The death of a letter carrier who was delivering mail in 117-degree heat has led to $149,664 in proposed federal penalties for the U.S. Postal Service.
The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited USPS on Jan. 2 for a repeated violation of OSHA’s General Duty Clause, which requires employers to provide a workplace free from recognized hazards that are causing or likely to cause death or serious physical harm.
USPS has 15 business days to contest the citations.
