Governor's Flight on Sedgwick Jet Draws Election-Year Scrutiny

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds reportedly received ethics approval to fly with her family last year to an Iowa State University bowl game free of charge on a jet owned by Sedgwick, which administers workers’ comp claims for state employees.
Sedgwick Chief Executive Officer Dave North said he reimbursed the company for the plane’s use as a contribution to the Republican governor’s campaign for a full term, the Associated Press reported.
Reynolds’ office said campaign events were scheduled during the half-day trip, according to records the AP reviewed.
Reynolds flew to Tennessee to watch the Cyclones, Iowa State’s football team, play in the Liberty Bowl on Dec. 30. Reynolds’ campaign reported the value of the flight as $2,880.
An ethics regulator approved the flight despite a law barring public officials and their relatives from accepting gifts.
But the flight is coming under scrutiny before the Nov. 6 election, in which Reynolds is seeking a four-year term against Democrat Fred Hubbell.
