Proposal to Expand Firefighter Presumption to Civilians Scrapped

A bill that would have expanded a presumption that certain cancers are occupational to people working alongside firefighters throughout California was amended to instead call for a study. Assemblywoman Sydney Kamlager-Dove, D-Los Angeles, on Tuesday amended AB 1400 to remove language that would have given workers who maintain fire engines and firehouse facilities the same presumption that applies to active firefighters with regard to cancer.
