OSCAR in Focus During WCD's Annual Work Comp Conference

The Kansas Workers Compensation Division will share information about its Online System for Claims Administration and Research/Regulation during the 44th Annual Workers Compensation Seminar, scheduled for Sept. 25-26 at the Overland Park Convention Center.

Matthew Bryant, president of WorkComp Strategies of Richmond, Virginia, is scheduled to speak on the opening day of the session. His company is one of two vendors that designed the state’s online system, known as OSCAR, which is scheduled to launch in October.

CapTech Ventures also worked on the project.

Bryant will go over the basics in a general session and later will speak more specifically on how OSCAR impacts attorneys and law offices. That session will include Workers Compensation Division Operations Administrator David Sprick.

Other items on the conference agenda include:

  • "New Approaches to Complex Back Surgery,” presented by Dr. Alexander Bailey of Precision Spine and Orthopaedic Specialists in Overland Park; attorney Matthew Bergmann of Frieden, Unrein & Forbes, Topeka; and attorney Samantha N. Benjamin-House of McAnany, Van Cleave & Phillips of Kansas City.
  • A case law and legislative update presented by attorneys Jan L. Fisher of McCullough, Wareheim and LaBunker in Topeka, and Dallas Rakestraw of McDonald Tinker in Wichita.
  • A presentation on pain management by attorney Matthew Crowley of Topeka; Dr. Dawood Sayed, with the University of Kansas Health System in Kansas City; and attorney Roger Riedmiller of Riedmiller, Andersen and Scott in Wichita.

Admission costs $155 for two days and $95 for one day until Aug. 29. Afterward the cost is $180 for two days and $120 for one day. The agenda and registration information is here.
