County Says Comp Program More Efficient Than Pool

Friday, July 5, 2019 | 0

An audit of Clark County’s workers’ compensation program noted improvements in efficiency since it left the Washington state Counties Risk Pool in 2014.

“Analysis of the available claims data showed gains in efficiency and effectiveness within the workers’ compensation program,” the county said in a statement. “Analysis also showed fewer claims but an increase in litigated claims overall.”

The audit did find some problems with the county’s risk management practices. For example, the county has less data about its workers’ compensation and general liability claims than it did when it was in the pool. The audit also found that the county is not consistently applying the same processes to general liability and work comp claims.

But the audit nonetheless concluded with a recommendation for the county to keep managing its own comp and liability programs.
