SAIF Board Elects Chairman, Welcomes New Member

The board of directors for SAIF Corp. elected Jeff Stone as chairman, and Krishna Balasubramani vice chair, the carrier announced Monday.

Jenny Ulum, who has served as chairwoman since 2014, will remain on the board. Stone was elected vice chairman in 2017.

The board also announced the arrival of board member John Mohlis at its Wednesday board meeting. The Oregon state Senate approved Mohlis’ appointment in May as part of a vote on a number of governor appointments.

Stone is executive director and chief executive officer of the Oregon Association of Nurseries, based in Wilsonville. Prior to joining OAN, Stone worked as chief of staff to the Metro Council and as an adviser to U.S. Sen. Bob Packwood.

Balasubramani is a partner in the firm Sather, Byerly and Holloway LLP in Portland. Prior to joining Sather, Byerly and Holloway in 1996, she was a pro tem administrative law judge for the Workers' Compensation Board.

Mohlis served as the executive secretary of the Oregon State Building and Construction Trades Council. He also served for five years on the workers’ compensation Management-Labor Advisory Committee, three terms as a commissioner on the Portland Development Commission, and two terms on the Oregon State Apprenticeship Council.

Mohlis’ appointment comes after the retirement of Kevin Jensen, former business manager for Ironworkers Local 29 in Portland, who served on the board since 2014.
