Nurse Must Repay $46,000 for Double Dipping

A north Texas nurse must repay Texas Mutual Insurance Co. more than $46,000 after she was found guilty of double dipping.
Shannon Drew, of Aubrey, Texas, claimed she was injured in a workplace incident and said she was unable to work. Texas Mutual began paying benefits, but investigators soon found that she was working as a nurse at another company, according to an email from TMI.
Texas' dedicated workers' compensation prosecutor, part of the Travis County District Attorney's Office in Austin, handled the case.
Texas Mutual, the largest workers' compensation carrier in Texas, with more than 40% of the market, refers investigations to the state Department of Insurance, which refers some to Travis County. TMI reimburses the prosecutor for some costs.
The company has said it aggressively pursues fraud charges because fraud and double dipping can lead to higher premiums for employers.
