Pennsylvania’s rating bureau has proposed a 42% decrease in workers’ compensation premiums for longshore and harbor workers after discovering its rates dwarfed those in other maritime states.
If approved, the filing for F-Classifications under the U.S. Longshore and Harbor Workers Compensation Act would take effect Oct. 1.
For the job of stevedoring, F-Classification 7309, Pennsylvania’s rate was more than five times higher than the average for other states with harbors.
