WCD, DOI Issue Advisory Bulletin on Employer Liability for Subcontractors

Alaska’s Workers’ Compensation Division and Division of Insurance issued an advisory bulletin reminding employers and contractors that they are liable for occupational injuries sustained by workers of an uninsured subcontractor. The division said the state’s workers’ compensation laws requiring employers to carry coverage also holds contractors liable for securing coverage for employees of a subcontractor that has not purchased insurance.
