While total pharmacy spending is way down, the cost of compounded drugs nearly doubled in Texas from 2010 to 2016, according to a new report by the Department of Insurance’s Workers’ Compensation Research and Evaluation Group.
Pharmacy spending plummeted from $160 million in 2010 to $98 million last year, but compounded drug costs skyrocketed from $6 million to $11 million, with the average cost per prescription jumping 133% from $356 to $829, the report states.
