Governor Signs Bill to Increase Burial Benefit

Gov. Henry McMaster has signed a bill to increase the amount of burial expenses payable under workers' compensation, to $12,000 from $2,500. The General Assembly ratified House Bill 7829 on Tuesday. The governor signed it two days later.  The bill, by Rep. Sylleste Davis, R-Berkeley, originally increased the benefit to $7,500, but a Senate Judiciary Committee amendment increased the amount to $12,000.
