WC Judge Makes Short List for State Appeals Court

A Georgia workers' compensation judge has made the short list for the state Court of Appeals.

Judge Elizabeth Gobeil, on the compensation bench since 2012, was among 13 names submitted to Gov. Nathan Deal by the state's Judicial Nominating Commission, the Daily Report noted Wednesday. The commission interviewed 40 candidates out of 211 names initially considered.

Deal faces three vacancies on the state appeals court, after two judges were elevated by President Donald Trump to the federal bench, and one judge announced his retirement.

Gobeil is one of three compensation judges who serve on the Georgia Board of Workers' Compensation. She obtained her law degree from the University of Georgia and began practice in 1995. She is the wife of Deal's former chief operating officer, according to news reports.
