Emergency rules expected to go into effect in early August will require California employers to protect workers from hazards associated with wildfire smoke, the Department of Industrial Relations announced.
The Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board on Thursday adopted the emergency rules that will remain in effect for one year. The rules apply to workplaces with an air quality index for airborne particulate matter of 151 or greater, as well as places where employers should reasonably anticipate workers being exposed to wildfire smoke.
