Both chambers of the New York state legislature passed a bill that will limit initial opioid prescriptions to a seven-day supply, sending the measure to Gov. Andrew Cuomo's desk.
Assembly Bill 10727, by Linda B. Rosenthal, D-Manhattan, would limit initial opioid prescriptions to a seven-day supply, compared to the 30 days allowed under current law. Painkillers prescribed to treat chronic pain, cancer and for palliative care are exempt from the limitation.
