EBay Businesswoman Sentenced to Conditional Release for WC Fraud

Thursday, May 31, 2018 | 0

A Buffalo woman who ran her own internet business while claiming workers' compensation disability was sentenced this week to one year of conditional release.

Caroline Jankowski, 44, reportedly injured her back in 2012 while trying to lift a patient at a nursing home, and collected more than $48,000 in benefits, the New York State compensation fraud inspector general announced in a news release.

An investigation by the office found that Jankowski went on to earn $53,000 from her internet business, selling items on eBay.

“This defendant concealed her business activities and income to abuse the workers’ compensation system and steal benefits to which she was not entitled,” said Inspector General Catherine Leahy Scott.
