WCD Updates IME Provider Guide

Oregon’s Workers’ Compensation Division updated the training manual for independent medical examiners by adding new information about provider expectations, and tips to avoid complaints by injured workers.

The Training Guide to Performing Independent Medical Exams is required reading for all providers seeking authorization to perform exams to resolve disputes over compensability or causation, the appropriateness of treatment or the extent of a worker’s impairment.

Providers must read the guide and pass an online, open-book quiz before they can be authorized to serve as an IME. The division said quiz questions were designed to reinforce portions of the guide.
