A candy-manufacturing plant in Kansas is facing $193,000 in proposed federal penalties after 22 pounds of anhydrous ammonia leaked from an air-conditioning system at the facility.
The leak, at a Russell Stover Candies plant in Iola, forced the evacuation of hundreds of workers and closed the plant for two hours, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration. No one was injured in the Sept. 23 incident.
