Candy Maker Fined $193K After Ammonia Leak at Plant

A candy-manufacturing plant in Kansas is facing $193,000 in proposed federal penalties after 22 pounds of anhydrous ammonia leaked from an air-conditioning system at the facility. The leak, at a Russell Stover Candies plant in Iola, forced the evacuation of hundreds of workers and closed the plant for two hours, according to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.
