Connecticut Gov. M. Jodi Rell signed legislation last Thursday that guarantees emergency responders will be eligible for workers' compensation benefits arising out of a series of occupational diseases if they are shown to be work-related.House Bill 5282, which passed the Connecticut General Assembly on May 18, covers paid and volunteer firefighters, police, constables and volunteer ambulance services workers.The diseases must be shown to be have been contracted during the course of employment and include hepatitis, meningococcal meningitis, tuberculosis, Kahler's Disease, non-Hodgkin...
