The California Supreme Court last week denied review of two workers' compensation cases, including a dispute over the benefits owed for a hospital executive's death.
Douglas Skubitz had been an associate vice president for the Hanford Community Hospital.
In December 2009, he traveled from his home in Fresno to a business conference in Pismo Beach.
While he was at the conference, Skubitz received word that his pregnant daughter had gone into labor.
His supervisor gave him permission to go home, and Skubitz made it back to Fresno in time to witness the birth of his granddaughter.
