Regulators in Colorado, like those in most other states, can assess penalties to employers who fail to carry workers’ compensation coverage.
But in some cases the Department of Labor and Enforcement has been slow to inform employers they are not in compliance, which, when coupled with a mandatory penalty structure for some violations, has resulted in one business facing more than a half million dollars in fines, according to a report by a CBS affiliate in Denver.
