Uncertainty About Coal Miner Claims Prompts 'Negative' Outlook for KEMI

A.M. Best has revised its outlook, to negative from stable, for Kentucky Employers’ Mutual Insurance, partly due to the insurer’s uncertain exposure from coal miners’ occupational disease claims. At the same time, A.M. Best affirmed KEMI’s financial strength rating of A-minus, or excellent, and long-term issue credit rating of a-minus.
