Used Car Parts Co. Fined $27K After Worker's Death For Unsafe Procedures

A used car parts company might have prevented an employee's death if managers had trained workers to service rim wheels safely, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration said this week. The agency issued John's Used Auto Parts of Bellingham, Massachusetts 12 violations of workplace safety standards stemming from an inspection after a worker's death last fall. It announced the citations on Tuesday. On Oct. 31, a worker was mounting a multi-piece rim wheel on a car when he was struck in the head by a chain on a come-along device.
