Ricardo Lara vowed in a statement released after he took the helm of the Department of Insurance on Monday to defeat the threat of climate change and protect California residents from fraud.
Lara, who succeeds term-limited Dave Jones as insurance commissioner, mentioned in his first statement fighting fraud and defending against insurance scams. He said he plans to work with Gov. Gavin Newsom, who also took office Monday, to expand access to health care in California.
