Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo has signed a bill that sets up a legal structure for workers' cooperatives.
The legislature codified the structure in hopes that more workers would create enterprises that are "democratically controlled and operated by their own workers," House Bill 6155 Sub. A states.
Workers' cooperatives "shall enjoy the powers and privileges, and be subject to the duties, restrictions and liabilities" of corporations, according to the bill.
