A jury has convicted a slain workers' compensation attorney's boyfriend of her murder after three days of deliberations, the Record-Journal reports.
Robert Reagan, 53, is expected to receive 16 years to life in prison for the murder of 47-year-old Loredana Nesci at his sentencing hearing on Sept. 19.
Prosecutors told the jury that Reagan stabbed Nesci repeatedly in the mid-section with a 15-inch hunting knife during an argument at home in July 2015.
Reagan's attorney said that Nesci had fallen on the knife. He said Nesci and Reagan were fighting for control of the weapon when they fell onto the bed, with Nesci falling on top of the knife. He originally told detectives and reporters that he stabbed her in self-defense.
Prosecutors said the falling-on-the-knife premise could not have happened. They showed evidence that one of Nesci's multiple stab wounds was so deep that it indicated the knife was thrust through her mid-section and out her back.
A Connecticut native who worked for the Los Angeles Police Department before going to law school, Nesci handled workers' compensation, personal injury and family law cases at the Connecticut law firm Caden, Ivers & Ivers for two years before moving back to California in 2004 to start her own practice.
She later was the subject of the Sundance reality television show "Loredana, Esq.," which premiered in 2014 and ran for one season.
