Gov. Jim Justice has signed a bill that limits to four days opioid prescriptions written in emergency rooms or urgent care centers in West Virginia.
Senate Bill 273 limits opioid prescriptions written by a dentist or an optometrist to a three-day supply. Other prescribers, outside of emergency rooms or urgent care centers, may not write an initial opioid prescription for more than a seven-day supply.
If ongoing prescribing of a Schedule II opioid is justified, the doctor must examine the patient at least every 90 days. And patients receiving Schedule II prescriptions for more than seven days...
