An employee at a chicken processing facility in Pennsylvania lost a thumb while operating a mixing machine in March, leading to a $318,000 fine for the company.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspected Birdsboro Kosher Farms Corp.'s Birdsboro facility on April 2 after receiving a report of the worker's thumb loss.
Inspectors found uncovered floor holes, inadequate signage, unsecured gas cylinders, and a lack of employee protection equipment and safety programs, among other issues.
Birdsboro Kosher Farms has been cited for similar issues in the past.
