A bill that would make Maryland's state prison guards eligible for higher weekly payments for certain injuries will have its first reading in the Senate's Finance Committee on Jan. 10.
Most Maryland workers receive one-third of their weekly wage for fewer than 75 weeks when they're getting benefits for an injury classified as a "permanent partial disability."
Public safety employees in the same situation, though, receive two-thirds of their weekly wage, capped at $351 per week. The cap is calculated each year based on the state's average weekly wage.
