New Orleans Doctor Pleads Guilty to Role in Pill Mill Operation

Monday, September 11, 2017 | 0

A New Orleans doctor accused of selling opioids to addicts for cash will spend 10 years in prison if a federal judge accepts his plea deal at a sentencing hearing in December, the New Orleans Advocate reports.

Frederick Floyd, 58, pleaded guilty on Thursday to charges of illegally dispensing prescription drugs and money laundering.

Federal agents arrested Floyd in July on allegations that he teamed up with others to run a pill mill in New Orleans East. Investigators say he saw up to 70 patients a day between Jan. 1, 2015, and Aug. 31, 2016, and he dispensed nearly 5 million doses of prescription medication during that time.

More than a million of the doses were for oxycodone, authorities say.
