Claims Hearings Could Be Held in District, Not Town Where Injury Happened

A bill that passed the state House late last week could mean less driving for workers' compensation judges and staff, but perhaps more miles for workers and employers.
Hearings on workers' compensation claims could be heard in the district in which the injury occurred, instead of the city or county where the accident happened, according to House Bill 5153.
The hearings would still have to be within 75 miles of the county seat in the county in which the injury occurred.
The measure, sponsored by state Rep. Greg Delleney, R-Chester, passed the House 100-2 late last week and now awaits action in the Senate.
South Carolina's Workers' Compensation Commission has seven districts, with offices in the larger cities in each district.
